I am pleased to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! My name is Jamila Simmons and I will be your science teacher this year!  I currently live in the Leland area with my husband Jeremy, our 3 children, and our dog  Bella. My husband and I met at UNCW and have been together for 14 years! Our oldest son, Jeremiah is 13, our middle son, Josiah is 11, and our baby girl Jaila is 8. We are a true baseball and dance family.  

This is my 14th year teaching with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I am looking forward to having your child as a student. Fifth grade is such a fun year with so many wonderful learning activities to celebrate. In order to have a fun year, my most important goal is to create a family of learners in my classroom. I am committed to creating a classroom environment where your child is a valued, trusted, and an integral part of our family of learners. In order to accomplish this, I have planned a variety of activities to emphasize and reinforce this goal. It is my hope that you will support and encourage this vision at home.

As your science teacher, I aim to spark your curiosity about the natural world and instill a sense of wonder about the phenomena that surround us.
