The STEM acronym stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. All of these academic disciplines rely heavily on each other and are highly integrated in the professional and academic world. For example, an engineer will apply scientific knowledge about the chemistry of materials, mathematics, computer simulations, and physics when designing a bridge.
This course is intended to integrate the STEM fields through project based learning. Students will be engaged by frequent hands-on activities geared towards combining each of the STEM disciplines. Creativity and collaboration will be encouraged as students solve problems. Students will learn to apply critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills and practices used in project-based learning. The STEM Lab is a fun and engaging way to learn about: Circuitry, Computer Graphics, Digital Communications, Mechanics and Structures, Robotics, Scientific Data and Analysis, Software Engineering, Sustainability and Video Production. I want students to be able to explore, learn, and find their niche. I want students to question and learn from challenges and through making mistakes and applying corrections.
Attendance- participating in class will be the biggest factor for success in the STEM Lab. There are so many fun and engaging resources to help you learn about a vast amount of STEM topics that are hard to create outside of this room.
Teamwork- collaborating with your partner on modules is a vital part of your learning and grade. When working with a partner academic talk is expected, not socializing.
Off Task behavior- students will be working, not off on gaming sites, music or topics of your choice, unless received as an award and previously approved by the teacher.
Clean up- Due to quick class transition times, clean up is very important. Students will be responsible for cleaning up their area and placing multi-day projects in designated spaces.
Failure to meet expectations will result in:
1. Warning 2. Teacher/student conference 3. Parent contact
4.Office Referral 5. Parent Conference
