The Scorpion Arts camp, is held by the North Brunswick High school band students and volunteers. Your child will be involved in many fun and exciting arts activities. High school student counselors are paired with age similar groups. Students also receive two meals and a snack.
Camp Lesson
Every morning, the camp lesson and theme is introduced to all campers. The themes will be centered around character building and include topics such as honesty, trust, feelings, anger management, communication, and tolerance. Counselors will perform impromptu skits detailing the topic for the day. The camp director will follow the performance with a lecture and questions for campers.
Athletic /Team building exercise
Students will participate in athletic activities that build muscle stamina and teamwork. Transition periods are scheduled during the athletic portion for hydration and cool down.
Music
Using Orff/Kolday methods, Students will engage in singing and instrumental music activities. Eurythmics and Aural modeling will allow students to easily participate. Students will also be introduced to band instruments and only play percussion based instruments.
Art/ Craft activities
Arts and crafts will center around drawing, painting, coloring, tactile activities. Students will participate in activities that are grade level appropriate
Cooking
Students will take a brief cooking class designed to prepare their afternoon snack. Items are pre-packaged and given to students to assemble. Alternative ingredients will be used, for students with allergies listed in the pre- registration form.
Dance
Camp counselors will teach students movements and traditional dances from different cultures. Dances include singalongs, Line dances, waltz, and conservative Hip Hop. This can also be paired with the music portion of the curriculum.
Theater.
Students will participate in impromptu style theater activities. Counselors will assist students in creating skits centered around camp lesson topics and age appropriate life situations
