To help you guide your choice in CTE elective options in high school, we have created a website that will walk you through Career Clusters and Pathways offered in Brunswick County.
If you click on a Career Cluster, you will be able to see the Pathways offered. Choose a Pathway to see the courses offered at SBHS. This will help guide you on making informed choices as you prepare to become a College and Career Ready Graduate.
Career and Technical Education classes are designed to help you with career exploration and preparation for your future. Whether you are looking to go to work or continue your education after high school graduation, CTE classes provide you with the knowledge and skills you need. As you complete the Career Cluster Survey in eighth grade, you can use your results to help guide your exploration through the pathways within the cluster and potential occupations.
When completing your Academic Four Year Plan in Major Clarity, you will notice that the elective pathways will match the information you are finding here. This is to allow you to easily choose a pathway and elective courses for high school.
As you begin to make course selections, you must take a prerequisite course before you can take a concentrator course. Some pathways require you to take a foundational prerequisite (this varies by pathway). The supplemental employability skills courses and technical courses are wonderful additions to the required courses for that pathway.
Included at the end of each pathway, are the Brunswick Community College (BCC) Career and College Promise (CCP) courses within the Associate Degree Programs, Career and Technical Programs (Certificate and Diploma) and/or the Workforce Continuing Education Programs. *Please note that most of these are not options until you are a junior and/or senior in high school and you must meet qualifications to take the courses.
We have also included links to NCcareers.org with occupations that match the career cluster you are looking at.
Please reach out to me, your Career Development Coordinator, if you have questions or would like to talk about your various options.

The ACT WorkKeys is a skills assessment test that students will take upon completing a concentrator course in Career and Technical Education (CTE). It is used to measure your abilities in a variety of workplace skills so you and a potential boss can see where your strengths and weaknesses are professionally.
By taking the WorkKeys test, students can earn a State Career Readiness Certificate (CRC), as well as a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). They are awarded at different levels; bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Remember, this is a credential that you can use on resumes in the future!
