COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course aims at developing the students’ ability to communicate in the French language, through reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, speaking, and culture. At the end of the course, students should have a working knowledge of a variety of familiar topics expressed in a basic conversation.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Students are assessed according to proficiency in the following areas of language study: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Culture, Vocabulary, and Grammar. Grades are determined through class work, stations, projects, quizzes, tests, and independent work, all that is described in a guide.
MATERIALS: Charged Chromebook, Pencil, Notebook, Digital dictionary. NO COLOR PEN on assignments.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
1. Be prepared daily, with all materials ready to start. Classes run from bell to bell.
2. Turn in all assignments on time. Extensions for in-class work given for IEP.
3. Write all assignments with pencil or black/blue ink. Work written in colored ink loses 10 points.
4. Always work individually. Instructions for collaborative work will be given when needed.
5. Participation! Students will be asked to speak, read, and answer questions in French. To learn
a language, students should not be afraid to make a mistake and learn from it!

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES - INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES - ASSESSMENT METHODS:
Both the district and the school rules will be enforced in the classroom. The rules cover electronic devices, students’ behavior, initiatives that contribute to skills development, and students’ accountability.
Students and parents will receive a pacing guide that describes the objectives for the term through lessons and activities. The lessons and activities are designed to promote learning drawn from the state standards for F1.
The skills that call for assessment are reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, speaking, and independent work. Students are expected to talk when assignments require it. Rubrics are provided to help students be aware of what they need to do. All due dates and details for assignments are listed on the Pacing Guide.
Some specific items for this class are listed below.
One formative assessment on Friday 1 } Duration: 60 mns.-no longer than 10 questions.
One summative assessment on Friday 2 } The average of the 2 assessments is the grade.
Students have a choice of platforms to present their work on Friday 1
[Google Slides, YouTube video, a 10-minute audio, a comprehensive poster].
A vocabulary building activity from a podcast where 2 or 3 words are studied; to be completed by the end of each 9-week period [minimum 64 words and 74 words respectively].
A memorized dialogue that facilitates confidence in interactions - 1 for each 9-week period.
Bell work.
Independent work.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL:
Complete all assignments on time; rely on their own research not on electronic translators.
Be respectful and polite toward everyone in the group.
Practice both good-will and essential cooperation in the classroom.
