ELA: Year at a Glance

In ELA for 8th Grade, there will be four units that will comprise our focus of study. Each of these units will cover the entirety of one quarter, and are listed below:

• Unit 1: The Power of Poetry

• Unit 2: Montgomery

• Unit 3: Exploring Antarctica

• Unit 4: Shakespeare's Theater

Within each unit, students will be reading a variety of texts, including short and long fiction, short non-fiction (including personal narratives), and poetry. The texts for each unit will correspond with to the theme of each unit, and will also be aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Students will be informed of which standards we will be covering at the start of a new lesson, and will be expected to know and understand how they will be graded. 

There will also be a greater focus on writing this year! Students will be journaling throughout each week on a variety of topics.
