Hi, I was born in Michigan and moved to North Carolina when I was 16 years old, so I like to think I am a southerner. I have lived in Southport for 15 years with my husband, 2 daughters and 2 black labs! My daughters are now in college at NC State, Go Wolfpack!, but they both completed their entire education in Brunswick County, so I try to have the perspective of a teacher and parent when I am planning my lessons and helping my students to be successful! I have a BFA from ECU and my teaching  certificate from UNCW. I have had 2 other careers before I became a teacher and feel that the real world experience has made me a better teacher. I am certified to teach K-6th grade all subjects, 6-9th grade science and K-12th grade Art. I absolutely love to teach students science! The world we live in is an amazing place and I free privileged to help my students to learn more about the world they live in. I believe that students learn best when they can experience first hand what they are learning and collaborate with each other; therefore, as often as possible, students collaborate and complete hands on labs or stations. I also believe that vocabulary and reading comprehension is the foundation to all learning, so students complete a verity of vocabulary activities as well as, read and annotate scientific articles for each standard they learn.

I want every child to be successful; therefore, students are allowed to redo any assignment except for unit test to improve their mastery and grade. I update grades weekly and notate if a students has any missing or incomplete assignments. Please access your PowerSchool Parent Poral to stay informed on your child's progress in science on a regular basis. Once the students have completed each unit, they will not be allowed to make up missing assignments. Feel free to contact me through classdojo or email if you ever have any questions or concerns.
