Welcome to our 4th Grade Literacy classroom! I am so excited to have your child with us for a year filled with reading, writing, discovery, and growth! Fourth grade is an exciting time as students move toward becoming more confident, independent readers and writers. Together, we will explore engaging books and meaningful texts, build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and develop the skills students need to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.
Our classroom will be a place where students are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, share their ideas, take risks, and discover the joy of reading. My goal is to help every student see themselves as a reader, writer, and lifelong learner. I look forward to partnering with you throughout the year to support your child's growth and celebrate their successes along the way!
Throughout the year, students will develop their literacy skills through:
π Reading Comprehension
Students will learn strategies to understand, analyze, and discuss a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts.
βοΈ Writing
Students will plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish their writing while learning to communicate their ideas with evidence and detail.
π€ Vocabulary & Morphology
Students will explore meaningful words, prefixes, suffixes, roots, and word relationships to strengthen vocabulary and word knowledge.
π£οΈ Fluency
Students will practice reading accurately, smoothly, and expressively to build confidence and understanding.
π‘ Reading Strategies
Students will learn how to think about their reading, make connections, determine important ideas, ask questions, make inferences, and support their thinking with evidence.
π Wit & Wisdom
Through our Wit & Wisdom curriculum, students will explore rich texts and topics that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, discussion, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
We don't just want students to learn how to readβwe want them to discover why reading matters.
Together, we will work to build strong readers, thoughtful writers, confident communicators, and lifelong learners.
