I am pleased to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! My name is Jamila Simmons and I will be your science teacher this year!  I currently live in the Leland area with my husband Jeremy, our 3 children, and our dog  Bella. My husband and I met at UNCW and have been together for 15 years! Our oldest son, Jeremiah is 14, our middle son, Josiah is 12, and our baby girl Jaila is 9. I am a baseball and dance mom!  

This is my 15th year teaching with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I am looking forward to having your child as a student. Fifth grade is such a fun year with so many wonderful learning activities to celebrate. In order to have a fun year, my most important goal is to create a family of learners in my classroom. I am committed to creating a classroom environment where your child is a valued, trusted, and an integral part of our family of learners. In order to accomplish this, I have planned a variety of activities to emphasize and reinforce this goal. It is my hope that you will support and encourage this vision at home.

As your science teacher, I aim to spark your curiosity about the natural world and instill a sense of wonder about the phenomena that surround us.
