~ 4th/5th Grade AIG Math ~ 4th Grade Homeroom/Science/Social Studies ~
👋🏼 A Bit About Me...
I grew up in Baltimore, MD.
I have been in Gifted Education since 2017.
This is my 16th year as an educator, and it's the 7th year I've been lucky enough to be part of this community and staff at Lincoln Elementary School!
I have a passion for family, nature, creative expression, and critical thinking skills. I also love coffee, comedy, and my Baltimore Ravens!
💡 My Approach to Teaching...
First and foremost, I strive to align my instruction with North Carolina's Standards, Brunswick County's curriculum, and Lincoln Elementary School initiatives. In addition...
In AIG Math, we cover fourth grade's math standards. I enrich through the use of complex problem-solving tasks, reasoning and critical thinking exercises, and exposure to standards and skills from higher grades.
I integrate partner/group work and movement into the day as frequently as possible, as well as opportunities to work outside. This helps to keep students awake, alert, and engaged!
I stress "productive struggle" and perseverance as I do my best to meet each student where they are and challenge them.
Both globally and in our class, I honor differences and diversity. Students benefit and learn from each other's perspectives, and collaborating in diverse teams/groups is an essential and valuable skill in our ever-changing world.
🧠 AIG Placement Procedure...
Referral
A Teacher, an Administrator, AIG Lead, Counselor, Parent/ Guardian, or Student can refer a student for AIG Candidacy. The school-based AIG Team convenes to begin gathering student data to record in a Learner Profile document for the student.
Assessments & Screening
Students are assessed using the CogAT or the IOWA for their grade level. The District Lead scores the test and sends the results back to the AIG Lead.
Determination of Status
Student will be categorized by Talent Pool or Candidate. If the student is able to thrive in the AIG setting during the next 9 weeks, a DEP will be created and they will move to Identified.
These graphics have more information about each status in the AIG program.

For Students
For Parents
Students will have ample opportunities to observe and care for organisms. We began the year with a "class pet" Chinese Mantis, named Pam (above)...
...and a diverse group of plants, including Auggie the blue agave (left), and Al the ponytail palm (right)!
We are currently caring for green AND spotted tree frogs, and we will soon set up a closed terrarium and a propogation station!
Enjoying the views from the top of "Old Baldy" with some Lincoln Leopards! We prioritize field trips and enriching student's knowledge with real-world experiences as much as possible.
I'm always happy to clarify or discuss anything. Please reach out via email or on Class Dojo.
If it is time-sensitive and during school hours, please call the school.
