I am a proud native of North Carolina. I was raised in Cumberland County and I graduated from South View High School. I was awarded a Hankins Scholarship to Wake Forest University and I double-majored in Classics (Greek Language) and Religion. I graduated from Wake in 1987 and was accepted to Duke University for graduate school. I had aspirations of becoming a college professor at the time, but my plans were side-lined by my mother's poor health. I returned to Fayetteville and went into the retail world managing stores like Kmart, TJ Maxx, and Macy's. Years later, after marrying a public school teacher, I decided to go back to school and get a Masters degree from UNCP to teach High School History.
I was married in 2000, to a public school teacher from Canada. We adopted a little girl named Mikaila in 2006 and raised her to adulthood. After the death of my wife Kim in 2021, I travelled extensively around the world going all the places that we dreamed of going during her lifetime. Italy and Greece are my favorites of course. We were married for 21 years when I lost her to Covid. It was definitely the trial of my life, but my faith got me through it to love again.
Brunswick County has always meant a lot to me, and my family loved our visits to Southport each year and the ferry rides over to Ft. Fisher. Both my dad's and my wife's ashes were spread into the Cape Fear from the ferry. I never dreamed that one day I would be teaching in Southport, but the Lord works in strange ways sometimes.
I currently live in Wilmington, and have remarried a wonderful lady named Ginnie, who is a local accountant downtown on Front Street. I am very blessed to have found two loves in my life, and I feel extremely blessed to be at South Brunswick High School this year.
