Discipline: I expect students to uphold an excellent moral standard! Students should always be respectful to their teachers, peers, and self! If students are respectful, there should be no opportunity for them to have any disciplinary issues. If students are not in line with district, school, and classroom expectations, disciplinary steps will be taken in an orderly process unless the situation deems immediate and specific action.
First, students will receive a verbal warning. If that does not resolve the issue,
the next step will be a minor referral. If the situation deems necessary,
the next step will be notifying the student's guardian. If there is still no solution after multiple minor referrals and/or guardian notification,
the next step will be a write-up. At this point, administration will take action as they deem necessary.
Phones/Technology: As my classroom is national park themed, we will pretend to be "happy campers" with no service! When you walk into this class, take it as an opportunity to UNPLUG from the world and EXPLORE reading and writing with your peers! Look up from your screens and learn from the people and world around you.
There will be NO PHONES per district and state policies. Students will turn their phones in BEFORE walking into class.
For my classroom specifically, no electronic devices will be used including (but not limited to) earbuds, tablets, Smart watches, etc. during instructional time. I kindly request students put ALL devices (except for their phones) away and out of sight to remove any temptation or distraction.
I will instruct students if they need their Chromebooks for any activities during class (unless accommodations are needed). Otherwise, students do not need their Chromebooks. Failure to follow this policy (as also seen in the syllabus) will result in the disciplinary steps mentioned above.
What should students have for class? Students need a binder, notebook/journal, pencils, highlighter, and a "happy camper" attitude!
How can grades/progress be monitored? Check Infinite Campus! There is assistance on our school website for navigating this system if you need.
What are students learning? The district has implemented MyPersepectives as our new curriculum for English! There are options for virtual sampling online in which you may be able to view the material being presented in class. If you have more questions, I am happy to speak with you! Don't forget I will also be posting weekly updates about what we are learning!
