The director of bands at Leland Middle School is Mrs. Jennifer Kirkland.  Mrs. Kirkland received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from UNC-Wilmington in 2007, in 2010 completed a Master of Middle Grades education degree from East Carolina University, and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree from UNC-Greensboro in 2014.  After completing her undergraduate degree, Mrs. Kirkland taught chorus and general music in Goldsboro, NC at Greenwood Middle School for 5 years.  She transitioned into band in 2012, and taught 5th-8th grade band at Greenwood Middle School for 6 years.  Mrs. Kirkland was the 2009/10 Beginning Teacher of the Year for Greenwood Middle School, and the 2015/16 Teacher of the Year for Greenwood Middle School. After moving to Castle Hayne, NC in 2018, Mrs. Kirkland accepted a position as music teacher at Cape Fear Elementary for one year.   

     Mrs. Kirkland is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the Professional Educators of North Carolina.

       Mrs. Kirkland currently resides in Leland, North Carolina, with her son, Henry, and her cat, Rudy.
