Hello! I'm Jentry Luse, and I'm new to WBHS. I started in January 2023, and I'm excited to assist in growing the Visual Arts Department. I am a native of Horry County, SC, and I went to undergraduate and graduate school at Coastal Carolina University. I obtained my AP certification through USC Upstate, and my IB certification through Rice University in Houston Texas.
I began teaching in 2014. I have taught all levels of public school, but I find that I like teaching high school the best. I have a structured, yet laid back format for my units of study.
I always start my units with Introductions; those might be historical art periods, famous artist, techniques, the elements and principles of design, certain materials and methods, or possible art-related career choices.
After the Introduction, we will have a time for Activities and First Drafts. Each unit lasts approximately 10 days. The students will have ample studio time to complete Activities, First Drafts and Final Drafts within class using school-provided materials.
Sketch Activities will be graded as daily grades. First Drafts will be graded as quiz grades. Final Drafts will be graded as test grades. Rubrics are provided for Final Drafts, so the students know what is required with every unit.
It is my hope to maintain a clean, peaceful, knowledgeable learning environment for students to thrive in their creative process. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. My email is listed at the bottom of this page.
