The EOC assessment is a mandatory component of the course, governed by State Board of Education policy TEST-003.
Mandatory Enrollment: All public school students enrolled for credit in an EOC course (such as English II) must take the appropriate EOC test at the completion of the course.
No Exemption: Students who are exempt from local board final exams are not exempt from the EOC test.
Course Status Irrelevant: Students must take the EOC regardless of the grade level in which the course is offered, and even if they are identified as failing the course.
First Time Requirement: Students are required to take the EOC the first time they take the course.
The EOC assessment must be taken at the completion of the course during a designated testing window.
10/20 Day Drop Rule: Students enrolled for credit may drop an EOC course only within a specific timeframe:
The first 10 days of enrollment in a semester block schedule.
The first 20 days of enrollment in a yearlong traditional schedule.
Students enrolled after the 10/20 day window shall not drop the course and must participate in the EOC assessment.
The test format and score use are fixed by state policy.
All EOC assessments are required to be administered online through the NCTest system.
Exceptions are made for students with documented disabilities requiring a paper/pencil format.
The EOC assessment result must be used as a minimum of twenty percent (20%) of the student's final course grade for each respective course.
Each student will receive an Individual Student Report outlining their performance.
