Welcome to the Paxton Patterson College and Career Ready Labs! This hands-on course is designed to provide middle school students with the ultimate career exploration. Through a series of interactive modules and activities, we'll explore everything from the inner workings of a machine, how to cook, and how to style hair and nails. The ultimate goal is to prepare students for college and career readiness by helping them make informed decisions about their future educational and professional pathways in different careers.

Career Exploration: The curriculum covers a wide range of college and career ready labs..
Hands-on Learning: A significant portion of the course is dedicated to project-based activities where students actively perform tasks related to different careers.
Modular Format: The program is divided into 10, 60 minute modules, allowing students to experience multiple career paths. This format enables students to identify their interests and aptitudes early on.
Digital Integration: The labs use a cloud-based learning management system that provides students with content, assessments, and immediate feedback.
Lab Modules:
Module 1: Alternative Energy: Students apply STEM concepts as they explore the fundamentals and viability of alternative energy sources.
Module 2: Cosmetology and Barbering: Students explore the fundamental concepts of cosmetology and barbering while practicing basic techniques in the field.
Module 3: Criminalistics:Students employ the seven S's of crime scene investigation as they utilize laboratory techniques used in forensic science to study fibers, fingerprints, chromatography, handwriting, and blood spatter.
Module 4:Design and Marketing:Students explore the fundamental elements and principles of modern design with an emphasis on providing design solutions to meet marketing strategies from concept to completion.
Module 5: Digital Manufacturing:Students learn the fundamentals of 3D coordinate programming and then design and create simple 3D printed projects while exploring the use of 3D printers in a wide range of industries.
Module 6: Energy and Power:Students examine and test the principles of operation, fundamentals of combustion, and adjustment procedures for a four-cycle engine.
Module 7: Flight and Drone Technology:Students investigate the four forces of flight as they apply to rockets, fixed-wing, and rotary aircraft. Additionally, they will utilize problem-solving skills while designing and operating a mini unmanned aerial vehicle
Module 8:Home Maintenance Systems:Students learn the fundamental skills and techniques for maintaining and servicing common residential plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automation, and security systems.
Module 9:Hospitality and Tourism Management:Students examine the management and entrepreneurial skills necessary to work in establishments related to the field of hospitality and tourism.
Module 10:Intro to Child Development:Students focus on the intellectual, physical and social/emotional development of children, while making a connection to careers in Child Development from infancy to adolescence.
Module 11: Intro to Computer Science:Students gain the necessary insights and strategies to formulate a problem and express its solution(s) in such a way that a computer - human or machine - can effectively carry it out.
Module 12: Intro to Culinary Arts:Students engage in the fundamental techniques needed for basic food preparation and presentation as well as the business concepts needed to make it profitable. This includes calculating food cost percentages, menu development, and marketing and promotion in the food and beverage services.
Module 13: Welding Basics:Students demonstrate the foundational techniques and principles of welding through real-world practice in a safe and controlled environment.
