The Center of Applied Sciences & Technology (COAST) provides the opportunity of a share-time center that serves all high school students in Brunswick County with a goal of providing advanced, honors level career and technical education courses for interested students.
Students attend the COAST Career and Technical Education Courses during a morning or afternoon session where they choose 2 CTE Courses to take. Students ride Brunswick County Schools transportation from their base school (Early College, North, South, or West Brunswick High School) to the COAST and then return back to their base school upon completion of their COAST courses.
Many of the programs offered at the COAST had previously been offered at only one district high school. Through the center model, courses once only available to students at one high school are now accessible to all students.
The goal of The COAST is to provide students with rigorous, real-world learning activities that translate into college and career opportunities after high school. The COAST implements a Problem-based approach to learning that actively engages students in the application of science, mathematics, engineering, technology, literacy, and art.
