Wheeler led the effort and was instrumental in the establishment of the Varsity (2013) and Junior varsity (2016) lacrosse programs at Fuquay-Varina High School in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
He became Head Coach in 2020 and has led the Bengals to (3) consecutive Conference Championships (2020, 2021, 2022) and voted Conference Coach of the Year in each season. FVHS Lax has made the NCHSAA 4A playoffs every year under his leadership.
In 2021 he was selected as the US Lacrosse Coach of the Year (NC) after his team finished 13-2 and was eliminated in the 3rd Round of playoffs by eventual State Champion Cardinal Gibbons.
Known for building positive relationships with coaches and players at camps, clinics and youth programs. Wheeler has been selected to coach a number of travel programs including: Cougar Select, Red Devil United, Bucktown, Goblin Lacrosse and Team91 programs in N.C. Recently winning the 2025 National Lacrosse Federation Championship on Long Island with his (2027) Team91 South-Orange team and being ranked Top 15 Nationally to end the 2025 Club Season.
Wheeler coached the 2022 North Carolina Team that won the 2018 National Lacrosse Classic (NLC) and went on to coach the U15 Team USA in the 2018 Brogden Cup that December vs Canada.
Coach Wheeler's teams have produced multiple NCAA athletes at Division I, Division II and Division III levels as well as NAIA and MCLA players. His energy and optimism for all players fuels the fire that keeps players wanting to play.
Wheeler was hired on by Div II Barton College in 2019, their inaugural season, and served 6 years as Assistant Coach with roles as Offensive/Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. He was an intrical part on building and guiding the 2023 Championship team and a proud member of the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Originally from Corning, N.Y., Brad was a Captain, All-League and All-Section player in lacrosse and football for Peekskill High School in Section 1 in Westchester County, New York. Wheeler was recruited and played lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts and also played at NCAA Division III powerhouse Salisbury State (Md.) before earning his degree and wrapping up his football and lacrosse collegiate careers at NCAA Division II Pace University (N.Y.).
While attending Pace University for two years, Wheeler established season and career records for both points and goals for a midfielder as well as earning MVP, Rookie-of-the-Year and All-Knickerbocker Conference honors and being named a Team Captain. Wheeler played five seasons with the Championship Dallas Lacrosse Team (1995-00) prior to moving to North Carolina in 2000 with his wife, KC, and starting their family.
In 2014, Brad was enshrined to the Peekskill High School Hall of Fame for his prior Lacrosse and Football accomplishments and also his representation of the school and community. Wheeler and his wife KC have two sons – Logan and Drew .
THE FAMILY
Logan was a three-time team Captain and voted the 2020 WRAL High School OT NC Lacrosse Player of the Year and held school records for most points, assist and ground balls at Fuquay-Varina when he graduated in 2020.
Logan attended Barton College majoring in Business Administration while minoring in Mathematics in earning his MBA degree and leading the team to its 1st and only Conference Carolinas Championship in 2023. He was a 2x All-Conference Selection, 2024 Pre-Season All-American, DI/DII Senior All-Star Selection and currently works for Nutanix - an enterprise cloud computing company specializing in hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) and hybrid multi-cloud solutions and named 'SDR of the Year' in 2025.
Drew was selected as a 2022 US Lacrosse High School All-American & US Lacrosse Academic All-America, he was also awarded the MVP in the Bull City All-Star and SouthEast Invitational Senior All-Star Showcase games following his senior High School Season. Drew holds multiple school and state records as a goaltender from his career at Fuquay-Varina High School. Drew is currently majoring in Business & Finance and a Senior goalkeeper for national ranked DII St. Leo University in Florida.
KC is a Certified Prosthetist / Orthotist (CPO) and works at the Hey Clinic for Scoliosis and Spine Care in Raleigh making 3D Custom Cad Cam braces for Scoliosis with an incredible team of PAs, PTs and Medical Assistance along with Dr. Hey.
Lola and Leo...well they are the two dogs that keep him company while running the beaches of Ocean Isle.
