OUR CURRICULUM
In North Carolina, third-grade science typically focuses on understanding matter, forces and motion, ecosystems, and weather and climate. Students will also learn about plant and animal life cycles, inherited traits, and adaptations. Additionally, they'll explore how the Earth's surface changes and how animals use behaviors to meet their needs.
In North Carolina, third-grade ELA/Reading focuses on word structure, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension skills, and writing skills.
In North Carolina, third-grade math focuses on developing a strong foundation in multiplication and division, understanding fractions, and exploring measurement and geometry. Students also work on place value, addition and subtraction with multiple digits, and estimation. Specific topics include multiplication and division within 100, understanding unit fractions, area and perimeter, and interpreting data.
North Carolina's third-grade social studies standards focus on building a foundation of social studies skills and concepts within the context of "Our Community and State". Students will explore the interaction between individuals and groups, learning about local and state communities, significant people and events, and the connection between a culture and its environment. They will also study maps to understand geography and its impact on communities.
