Mrs. Candace Wells

I love being a part of the NBES family and teach 3rd grade with a great group of students and teachers. I am from Asheville, and graduated from Asheville High School. I attended Mars Hill College, and after I graduated in 2001, I began my teaching career at Johnston Elementary teaching 3rd grade. The following year, I began with Asheville City Schools teaching at Claxton Elementary, where I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I later graduated from Montreat College in December 2010 with a Masters in Elementary Education. I also earned National Board Certification in Literacy that month as well. I completed and earned Add-On Licensure for Executive Leadership Studies from Gardner-Webb University in July 2015. 

My husband, Keith Wells, and I have two amazing boys. Matthew, our oldest, is starting his senior year and Drew, our youngest, is in 7thgrade. On weekends, we are either traveling with our oldest to watch him play baseball, or we are camping as a family in our travel trailer. 

I want to instill in all of my students a passion for learning. I believe students must actively participate in, and take responsibility for, their own learning. I believe students need to become self-reflective, just as adults do, so they can improve in areas of difficulty and build upon their areas of strength.
