Welcome to 4th Grade!

We are looking forward to meeting and working with you and your child next year. We would like to share valuable information with you so that the transition to fourth grade will be smooth!

TIPS

Have your child read something everyday. Read from a variety of materials and genres (ie: newspapers, magazines, fiction, non-fiction). Reading for as little as 30 minutes a day will help your child maintain his/her reading level. Weaverville Public Library and area bookstores are hosting summer reading programs with activities and prizes. These are worth checking out. We have also included below a summer reading list so that you can help your child stay on target with their reading throughout the summer months.

Your child will also be required to be proficient with their multiplication facts for 4th grade. Being proficient means that they need to be able to figure out their facts quickly and correctly. They are responsible for knowing their facts through the 12s. Practicing multiplication tables and simple division problems with flash cards (that can be bought for a dollar) and quick games can be instigated at any time. Online games and writing them are also great ways to help your child become quicker with their facts. Please have them practice a few minutes each day. A copy of the multiplication tables is listed below for your convenience. You can even create your own cards! Make it fun!

In fourth grade your child will have responsibilities designed to further their independence. Your child will be expected to:

1. Complete classwork on a timely basis. Organization is key, at home as well as at school!

2. Complete homework daily.

3. Turn in homework, notes, etc.

4. Pack/unpack their own backpacks. Maintain order in their cubbies and in their desks.

5. Write daily assignments and important notes in their planner.
