Hello! My name is Valerie Myers and I am excited to be teaching and case managing Exceptional Children in Buncombe County Schools. I have a strong background in teaching that began while volunteering in youth programs as a teen. I have worked with children from inner city Baltimore Maryland to Eagle River Alaska. My personal origin is northern Indiana. I attended public school there and with the support of some inspiring educators, a solid academic foundation was created. My family responded to the calling of the Blue Ridge mountains in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia (a short commute to D.C. & Baltimore) when I was in the fifth grade and that is where I graduated high school. I moved on to earn a bachelor's in psychology from Liberty University and a master's in teaching special education from Western Carolina University. I am licensed in several areas including general special education, adapted special education, behavioral special education, and general K-6. Outside of teaching, I became licensed as a therapeutic foster parent.
I teach because I believe in every child having an opportunity to experience success in the academic setting and supporting the development of a skillset that will benefit each student for years beyond the time that they leave my classroom. I prioritize building a relationship with each of my students. I strongly advocate for each student as I teach them to advocate for themselves.
