Tonya Deweese

Mrs. Deweese- Lead Title I Reading Specialist

My name is Tonya Deweese. I have been teaching at Emma Elementary since 1999. I taught first grade for 12 years before becoming the Title I Reading Specialist in 2011. I attended Emma Elementary, as a student, from Kindergarten-2nd grade. After second grade, my family moved to Weaverville, NC. I graduated from North Buncombe High School. I graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College. In 2009, I received my master's degree from Montreat College.

The Title 1 staff visits each classroom for 30 minutes of daily small group reading instruction. The Emma Title I staff consists of myself as well as three well-trained paraprofessionals:

I love teaching ! The biggest joy I get from teaching is watching the excitement in children when they are successful. My goal is to instill a love of learning in my students that they will carry throughout their entire educational career. Helping students learn to read is one of my passion's in life!
