Welcome to Mrs. Kibbe's 1st Grade Class
tina.kibbe@bcsemail.org
I am excited to be in First Grade this year! I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and tutored 4th grade as well. This is my 2nd year at Candler Elementary and I look forward to getting to know the families. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education from Mars Hill University. I have been married for nearly 27 years and we have 2 children, age 11 and age 8 and they both attend Enka District schools.
You will be amazed how much your child grows this year! In math our 1st Graders will be adding, subtracting and comparing double digit numbers. The faster your child masters his or her combinations of 10, the easier it will be for them to relate those combinations to double digit numbers. They will be working with fractions that are Whole, Half, and Fourths in a variety of ways.
For reading, I cannot express enough the importance of your child reading out loud to an adult each and every night! 20 minutes spent reading daily will grow your reader. Candler Library is right down the road and is a GREAT resource in finding books that your child will enjoy reading. Let them pick out books on topics they are interested in to build up reading skills! We want your child to begin reading fluently and comprehending what they read by end of 1st grade.
If you need anything or have questions or any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach me. Part of my job is to be a resource and help for parents and families. I will always do my best to communicate with families and help in any way I can. You can send a note in the Take Home Folder, call me at school (if I am teaching, I may have to return your call), email (my email is above), or send a Class Dojo message. I look forward to working with you to ensure your child is successful and reaches his or her full potential in 1st grade.
