Richette O'Brien

As the STEM facilitator at Haw Creek, I have the pleasure of working with students in all grade levels. I began working as a STEM facilitator in Buncombe County in 2018. I was the Instructional Assistant of the Year at Woodfin Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year.

I grew up in Alabama, but have been in Asheville for more than 30 years. I hold a degree from Warren Wilson in Social Work; I have a DPI certification in School Social work as well.

I love teaching STEM because I get to help students work through the Engineering Design process. In my class, students analyze problems, collaborate to find innovative solutions, test their predictions, and improve their designs. Their creativity is absolutely astounding. STEM levels the playing field and allows all students to excel!
