Peggie Seay, SLP

I was born and raised in Asheville, NC with deep family roots in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I attended all Buncombe County Schools and graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a K-6 Teaching Certificate at University of North Carolina in Asheville and a Master of Science Degree in Communication Disorders at Western Carolina University. I began my career as a Speech/Language Pathologist in 1994 working in a rehabilitation setting with adults who had suffered strokes and traumatic brain injuries. Although I loved working with adults, I longed to return to the schools to work with children with communication needs. I was thrilled to join Buncombe County Schools in 2001, after a short time with Transylvania County Schools.

As a Speech Language Pathologist (sometimes called Speech Therapists or Speech Teachers in the schools), I work to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication disorders in children while exploring alternative means of communicative access for those who need it.

My goals are to foster and facilitate effective communication skills for all students in order to help them successfully access the classroom curriculum and relay their wants, needs, thoughts, concerns and opinions.
