Crystal Shirk

Crystal Shirk is in her 18th year at Charles D Owen high school, 24th year as an athletic trainer.
She grew up as a local from Fairview in Buncombe County.  College education included a Bachelors of Arts from UNC-Asheville and Masters from West Virginia University. 

Her experience ranges from working in Recreational, College, High School, and Middle School athletics to Physical Therapy clinics and Physician offices as an athletic trainer. 

 

Her primary goal in her position is to do the best she can to take care of every athlete that comes her way from Head to Toe.  She enjoys learning new tricks to be more effective in this task as well as gaining trust from the student-athlete, parent, coaches, and administration.
The best thing about this job is knowing that with her hands and an athlete’s hard work she is helping an athlete progress from injured to full go. 

 

She has been a preceptor for Western Carolina University and Utah State Athletic Training students.  She has a bustling student athletic training program where she focuses her education on and off the field. 

 

She currently resides in Black Mountain with her husband of 25 years and 2 sons, one of which is an Owen High student and one at Emory and Henry University, 1 dog, and 2 cats.
