World History

We are currently finishing our unit on the Age of European Discovery by examining how the Age of Enlightenment and its core philosophers challenged traditional thinking. Students are analyzing how these new ideas about liberty, progress, and human rights disrupted established authority across the globe.

Moving forward, we will connect these powerful philosophies to the major cultural, social, and political revolutions that reshaped history. This bridges us directly into our next unit, which will focus deeply on the impacts of the Age of Exploration.

Earth Science

We have just finished our unit on the Earth's atmosphere. Now, we will transition into studying the water cycle and how water moves continuously between the ground and the air.

Next, we will connect these water movements to daily weather patterns like clouds, rain, and storms. This study will show us how heat and moisture work together to shape our local environment.

Weekly ELA homework-Students should read at least twenty minutes 4 nights a week. Studies show that regular reading improves reading ability. Students will go to the media center Tuesday, October 27. Please encourage your child to find a book and read it.

This week, we continue our suspense unit. We will read a teleplay, The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, by Rod Serling. Students will study characterization, theme and the elements of suspense.

While I do not offer retesting, students may use the testing strategies we've learned in class on any mutiple-choice reading questions, turn in evidence of using the strategies, and receive extra credit. Also, students are encouraged and permitted to reference the text and refer to any material in their ELA binder when answering reading comprehension questions. If you notice your child's grade below expectations, please encourage him/her to take advantage of this extra credit opportunity.

Students will learn the root MIT this week. The first five-root quiz will be Friday, October 30.

Last week, I read the first chapter of Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. Please ask your child to tell you about the characters, setting and main conflict. If your child has been absent any Friday this school year, (s)he is repsponsible for making up the First Chapter Friday reading. They will find the reading in their First Chapter Friday Module of their ELA Canvas Course.

Moyers Science

We will soon complete our next life science unit, genetics. Students will take an open-note test next week. We then move into our final life science unit, human body systems.

Students complete a daily bellringer in science.

Please reach out if you have questions.
