Ms. Sheila Midgett

I'm Sheila Midgett, and I am thrilled to be part of the Koontz community as a fifth-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.

I began my teaching journey in 1997 after graduating from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a degree in Elementary Education. I was born and raised on North Carolina's beautiful Outer Banks, so the coast will always have a special place in my heart. Over the years, life has taken me to different places along the East Coast, where I've had the privilege of teaching wonderful students while raising my own family.

In my commitment to meeting the needs of all learners, I earned my Exceptional Children certification and completed my Master's degree in Reading at UNCW. After spending a few years living and teaching in sunny coastal Florida, I realized there really is no place like North Carolina. In 2019, I traded the beach for the NC mountains, and I have absolutely fallen in love with this part of our state. 

One thing that has never changed throughout my teaching career is what I believe matters most: relationships. I know that when students feel seen, valued, and encouraged, they can accomplish amazing things. Building meaningful connections with students and families is at the heart of everything I do. 

Fifth grade is such an exciting year! Together, we'll dive into engaging books, become stronger readers and writers, explore fascinating moments in history, ask thoughtful questions, and discover new ideas every day. We'll challenge ourselves, celebrate our successes, laugh often, and create lasting memories along the way.
