Meet Your Teacher!

Hi!! My name is Leighton Caldwell, and I am a Second Grade teacher at Hominy Valley Elementary! This is my 2nd year at HVE. I grew up in Raleigh, NC and attended Appalachian State University with a degree in Elementary Education. This will be my sixth year teaching. My husband, Logan, and I enjoy hiking the beautiful mountains with our sweet dog, Kaya (pictured below), painting, and cooking!

I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, (now 2nd grade), 3rd grade, and 4th grade. With my husband in medical school & the U.S. Navy, we have moved from Raleigh, NC to Blacksburg, VA, and now Candler, NC where he grew up!

I became a teacher because my mom has been a second grade teacher for many many years in Raleigh. She was born a teacher and loves what she does, so naturally, I became so excited to be one myself. My husband was also a high school teacher in Raleigh for a few years before he began his medical journey. His parents were teachers in Candler for over 40 years! I guess you could say teaching runs in our family :)
