Mr. Matthew Long

Mr. Long's Wedding Portrait

Good morning/afternoon,

I am a Haywood County honor's graduate from Pisgah High School, and 2011 recipient of the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship. I attended Western Carolina University where I earned a dual degree in both Mathematics and Education, graduating with a 4.9 GPA in May, 2015. I moved to Hickory, NC and worked at Newton-Conover High School for six years, teaching everything from Foundations of Math 1 through Discrete Mathematics. After getting married in June, 2020 and moving back "home", I accepted a position at Enka High school, which I truly enjoy.

I have wanted to be a math teacher ever since I was nine years old, and I have not once regretted my decision. Being a Buncombe County employee is an honor, and I am proud to work at Enka High School with such a wonderful administrative team and set of coworkers. I plan to remain at Enka High school until I retire and continue to grow students academically and support them emotionally, building professional relationships with both staff and students, alike.

If your student is in my class, then he/she will be given a code to access our Google Classroom page at the beginning of the year, to which you may also be invited. The Google Classroom page will contain more contact information as well as our course syllabus, class announcements, daily assignments, and links to daily class notes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, and I will get back with you shortly. I look forward to working with you in helping your student grow and improving mathematical skills.
