Ms. Crenshaw

1st Grade Teacher

  • I've taught K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at NBES since 2000 ... but FIRST GRADE IS MY FAVORITE!! I love partnering with young children to help them become 'true' readers and writers for the 1st time. It's an amazing process that I'm always grateful to be a part of. My experience across many grade levels has given me the ability to remediate struggling students and challenge advanced ones.

  • I grew up in New Orleans, attended college at SMU in Dallas, and graduate school at LSU in Baton Rouge, and Mercer University in Atlanta. For adventure, I moved to Atlanta during the Olympics, where I worked for Coca Cola. After years of testing different careers, I followed my heart, moved to the mountains, and became a teacher.

  • My daughter went through the North Buncombe school system and I'm proud to say she attends NCSU in the Goodnight Scholars Program.

  • Digital learning/communication: I prefer the Remind app for weekly reminders and 1st grade creates lessons in Seesaw for extra motivation.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I believe that ALL children can learn and grow leaps and bounds, regardless of any challenges they may face! I am respectful of the fact that students learn at different paces and some require a lot more patience and guidance than others. My mission as a teacher is to inspire my students through engaging activities that incorporate music and movement whenever possible.
