Melissa Maas

Hello and welcome! I am so glad that you stopped by! 

 My name is Melissa Maas and I am a fifth grade math and science teacher here at Koontz.  I have been teaching since 2004.  I started my teaching career in Catawba County Schools where I taught 4th grade.  I then moved to  Cabarrus County Schools  where I taught grades 3-5, but upon getting married, I moved to South Carolina where I was an math interventionist for grades 6-8 for several years.  My husband is originally from this area and after my daugther was born, we decided to move back here.  I stayed at home for a few years and then began teaching in Buncombe County.  I have been at Koontz for 6 years and there is no place I'd rather be! GO RAMS!

I am a proud product of North Carolina public schools and attended Greensboro College where I obtained my degree in Elementary Education Grades K-6.  

  In my spare time, my family and I love to explore new places, go for hikes, hang out at the beach, and just spend time together as a family and with our extended family.
