Hello and welcome! I am so glad that you stopped by!
My name is Melissa Maas and I am teaching 6th grade math. I have been teaching since 2004. I started my teaching career in Catawba County Schools where I taught 4th grade. From there I moved to Cabarrus County Schools where I taught grades 3-5. Upon getting married, I moved to South Carolina where I was an math interventionist for grades 6-8. My husband is originally from this area and after our daughter was born, we decided to move back here. While she was young, I took a few years off to stay at home with her, and then began teaching in Buncombe County Schools. Before coming here, I was teaching 5th grade math and science at Koontz Intermediate.
I am a proud product of North Carolina public schools and attended Greensboro College where I obtained my degree in Elementary Education Grades K-6.
Much of my time outside of school is spent with my husband, Derek, on the softball field or basketball court cheering on our daughter. When we are not at sporting events, we love spending quality time together as a family. I also enjoy reading, trying new foods, and cooking.
