Mrs. Laura Lavezzo

Welcome to 8th Grade at North Buncombe Middle School! I am Mrs. Lavezzo and I am thrilled that we are going to be navigating English Language Arts together. 

I have worked with young people my entire life through coaching, mentoring, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. It is my pleasure to teach middle schoolers and impart my love of ELA. Although I am not a product of Buncombe County Schools, each of my children attended NBMS and graduated from NBHS. I have a long history at NBMS and live in the community myself. School families in the North Buncombe School District are my neighbors and I enjoy seeing students and families at ball games, in the grocery stores and community events. 

I am proud to be a Blackhawk!

In the classroom, I assign work in different ways. I use Google Classroom as a platform for posting assignments including Kahoot, Blooket and Quizizz, but also assign work on paper so that we are not glued to screens all day, every day. 

Then, of course, are books. In addition to the books available in the Media Center, I have a classroom library of more than 1000 books. I encourage self-selected reading and incorporate scheduled time in class, where students can enjoy reading books of their choice.
