Laura Josey

Hi! My name is Laura Josey and I'm the Title I Reading Specialist at Black Mountain Elementary. I am originally from eastern North Carolina. I attended East Carolina University for my undergraduate degree in K-6 elementary education and I went back to UNC-Chapel Hill for my Master's degree in K-12 Literacy. I have been teaching here since 2019 and I am so thankful to be a part of this wonderful school and community. 

I love helping kids strengthen their reading skills to help them grow into strong readers and critical thinkers. I really enjoy helping students find their love of reading. Sometimes it just takes one book to set off that spark or more time to practice skills to make reading easier for students. I hope to help every student I work with to get to that place where they are reading proficiently, with confidence and an eagerness to read for enjoyment.
