Kim Ransom

My name is Kim Ransom, and I am proud to be a part of the Buncombe County Schools Virtual Academy!!  I was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina. My parents still live there. I have lived in the North Carolina mountains for over 20 years and I love it here.

I received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Mars Hill College.  I have been working in education in Western North Carolina since 2004. I started out in Buncombe County as a teacher assistant at Owen High School. I have since taught elementary students in grades K-5. I was chosen teacher of the year in 2017 at Bee Log Elementary and 2021 at Blue Ridge Elementary School.

I love working with the students and families of the Virtual Academy for many reasons. I love the flexibility that I have to work with students on their level and at their pace. I especially enjoy the connection between the family/teacher/student working together as a team working towards the same goal. I am able to form very comfortable relationships with my families.

Personally, in my own life,  I have a fantastic daughter named Lyna. I have a little dog named Dharma who thinks she is in charge of us. I enjoy reading, cooking, music, relaxing at the beach, going for walks and spending time with friends and family.

I have a true passion for working with young learners!!  Helping each child progress in all areas of their development is a challenge that I am honored to accept daily.  I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures this growth in a positive, fun environment. I had an excellent experience working with students last year virtually and I am very excited to share this new adventure with you. I look forward to working together with you as partners in your child’s growth and development!!
