Kevin Young

The Enka High School Band is under the direction of Mr. Kevin Young. Kevin is a native of Weaverville, NC and is a graduate of Mars Hill University. Mr. Young is a sought out trumpeter, adjudicator, and teacher throughout all of Western NC.

Mr. Young is in his tenth year teaching and his third here at Enka. He is only the fourth band director in the history of our program following Roger Caldwell, John L. Lackey, and Ralph Middleton. Prior to Enka, Mr. Young was the director at Asheville Middle School where his ensembles received Superior ratings in concert and jazz music performance adjudication events. In 2016, his Jazz Band at AMS performed for the NC Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem, NC.

During his time at Enka, the band has doubled in size, and quality. The Band now offers the following ensembles: Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Indoor Drumline, Winterguard, and many other small ensembles. The success of the program belongs to all the hardworking students.

​Mr. Young resides in Candler, NC with his lovely wife Amanda and three children, Chase, Colby, and Audrey. He is proud to be a jet.
