Who is Mrs. Dunbar?

Mrs. Dunbar grew up in Asheville, NC and is a graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School. After graduating, she became a student at the University of NC at Asheville where she ran Division I track and x-country and played cello in the UNCA string ensemble. She graduated in 2004 with a BA in history and a teaching license. After graduating and completing her student teaching at Owen High School, Mrs Dunbar served two years in the United States Peace Corps in Uganda. After returning from Africa, Mrs. Dunbar took a job working for Middle College in January of 2007 and then took at job teaching at Owen High School in 2013.

In 2013 she earned her National Board Certification and in 2021 she earned her Masters in American History through Pace University. In 2022 Mrs. Dunbar was names the North Carolina History Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Dunbar's husband Chris works in large scale solar development and they have two beautiful daughters Harper and Brooklyn.

Some of her passions and dreams are: Reading fantasy/science fiction, gardening, relaxing at the lake, working out, camping, helping fundraise for NC Outward Bound, traveling the world and going on adventures with her family.

Mrs. Dunbar currently teaches Civics Literacy, American History and AP U.S. History. She also helps to organize the Outward Bound Student Leaders Club and provide scholarship opportunities for students and teachers to attend Outward Bound courses.
