Katie Hesson

Hello!

I am Katie Hesson, and the 2026-27 school year will be my 10th year teaching "on the ridge!"  NWR is a very special and caring community, and there is no other place I'd rather be.  I will be teaching English Language Arts, and I will be partnering with Brandi Fleckenstein and Trudy Smith.

I grew up in Greenville, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in Theatre.  I went on to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia. 

I've lived in the area for about 15 years now with my husband.  We have two young sons and a labrador, "Goose."  When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling and having adventures with my family.  

My goal as a teacher is to facilitate reading, thinking, discussing, writing, and moving every single day.  I work to cultivate a classroom environment that is engaging, respectful and safe, where students feel empowered to exercise their unique individual strengths.

For families in my class - We will be using the Class Dojo app as well as a weekly team website to communicate with home, and students will be using Google Classroom as an online platform.  Grades can be checked using the Infinite Campus student and parent portals.  More information to come!
