Julie Barnwell

Hello everyone!!

I am just delighted to be your child's teacher this year!! I feel so very thankful to be able to work with your precious 1st graders each and every day!! Here is a little bit about myself to help you get to know me better...

I grew up in Coral Springs, Florida and came to Appalachian State University in August 1989. You can imagine my surprise with the slight change of weather from Florida to Boone, NC! It was a very cold 4 years, but I loved every minute of it!! I graduated in December 1993 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I began teaching a K/1 combination class in August 1995. Since then, I have taught Kindergarten and 1st grade, spending the majority of my teaching years in 1st grade.

My husband Chris and I met in college and we came back to his hometown of Weaverville, NC in 1994 and married the following year in 1995. We have 2 beautiful children that are growing up much faster than I ever imagined they would. My son, Dylan, is 22 years old and just graduated from NC State in May 2022 with a major in Physics and a minor in Math and Computer Science. He is living in Raleigh and enjoying his amazing new job! My daughter, Emily is 16 years old and is a junior at North Buncombe High School. She spends a lot of time at school, working at Ingles, and having fun with her friends. We are truly blessed!!

I have an amazing assistant that I get to work with each day! Her name is Lindsey Jones and she is truly a wonderful teacher!! We are such a great team and I couldn't do anything I do without her!!

I love being a teacher and getting the chance to work with your child everyday!! Being a teacher is such a gift and I couldn't imagine doing anything else!! I hope that I make a small difference in your child's life because they will definitely make a big difference in mine!! Thank you for sharing your children with us!!
