Welcome to PLTW! It's going to be a great year!
I have been teaching science for 14 years, beginning my teaching career at Enka Middle School and happily returning in 2022, after moving away and teaching Biology in PA for 5 years. I am thrilled to be returning for my second year at NDA--I love this school!
I earned my 1st degree from Brevard College in Philosophy and Humanities, and my Comprehensive (6-12) Science Teaching certification from UNC Asheville.
I am available by email (joann.cortes@bcsemail.org) and for pre-arranged help in the afternoon or morning, as well as drop-in during Smart Lunch.
This year, I am teaching 3 PLTW classes: Human Body Systems, Capstone, and Principles of Biomedical Science.
For all of my classes you will need:
A fully bound composition notebook with quarter inch graph paper
A charged computer with access to the PLTW website
Some things about me:
I moved to WNC in 1997 and consider these mountains home.
I love to spend my time outside of school traveling, bird watching, playing soccer, eating and cooking with my husband and 2 young adult children, and cuddling with my cats and little dog. I love to sing and play piano, guitar, and old-time banjo. I love languages.
My daughter is a sophomore at NC State and my son is a senior at Asheville High School.
