NOVEMBER 2022
We love fall most of all! Students works throughout November on their fall projects. Kindergarten and first grade learned about texture with leaf rubbings. 2-5th grade studied contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, and were inspired by her wor to create polka dotted pumpkins out of clay, beads, and paper.
OCTOBER 2022
LINES!!!! We wrapped up our square one art projects and have moved on to our unit studying the element of LINE!
Kindergarten is learning line basics with the difference of straight lines, curvy lines, and zigzag lines. We started our "Line Lions" where we are drawing and coloring lion faces, then using the lines we learned to fill in thier manes.
1st grade is pulling some art examples from the book "Museum ABC," which they are studying in WIT & WISDOM (ELA). We are using our artist eyes to find the lines we know hidden in these works.
2nd graders are creating line spider webs using repeating straight and curved lines. We also practiced using rulers both as a straight edge and as a measuring tool in art.
3rd graders art taking a closer look at some artwork from their WIT & WISDOM unit all about the ocean. We are taking time to study the way the artists use LINE to make their oceans look calm and peaceful, or wild and frightening. Students are then creating their own ocean inspired line designs.
4th graders are also building on their WIT & WISDOM unit on "Great Hearts". We are studying different artistic representations of LITERAL and FIGUARTIVE hearts. Students will create a literal or figurative heart art piece of their own on foil.
5th graders are taking some inspiration from artist Paul Klee and are "Taking a dot for a walk" in their abstract line designs.
Our Square One Art fundraiser is the main source of funds for art materials at our school. Your child's catalog will be here by 10/19! Orders are due on 11/11!
SEPTEMBER 2022
This month we rolled right into our first unit of our square one art projects. Square One Art is a fundraiser we do every year to support our consumable supplies that we use up and need replacing each year. Basically we use our first project to create gorgeous work of art by each student. That work gets sent to the company and they create custom catalogs featuring each student’s masterpiece! Every child gets FREE stickers of their own artwork. Original artwork is returned. Then families and friends have the option to order gift products featuring your artist's work. I personally get holiday ornaments each year, and they are so fun to look back on!
After our first week in art learning the basic art room procedures, practicing mindful moments in the calm spot, and PAWS/HAWKS expectations, we got to work making art! For this project all grades are working with paint. Below are the video demos we are using to learn our painting techniques.
