Student Collaboration
Students collborate in the classrooms as they work together to complete tasks in groups. Students work as teams that communicate openly through both listening and speaking, supporting each other’s ideas, and respecting the contributions of all members in the team or group. As students learn to work collaboratively, assigning formal roles helps them to learn a role that enables the group to come together to complete a challenge and do it well. There are four basic roles students can take on when working in groups of four. The names of the roles can change, but the structure of each role in the group should be similar. As students work several days through their challenge, the roles can be switched so all students have chances to work in each role.
Collaborative Team Roles
To better facilitate the groups and/or teams and work in a more effective manner, it's good to establish team roles during a challenge. This allows each student in the team to have a specific task during the challenge.
