Derrick Thomas 


Hi! My name is Derrick Thomas. I am a Yancey County Schools alumni. I graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2022. I began my teaching career at Valley Springs Middle School as a Health/PE teacher in 2022. 

My passion to educate and coach youth spans across generations of teachers in my immediate family. These close family members as well as other impactful educators throughout my student career sparked a passion to help students across Western North Carolina in any capacity that I can. I am excited to have the opportunity to partner with the staff, children, and families in the North Buncombe community. 

When I'm not at school, you might find me spending time with the love of my life, watching some of my favorite sports teams (Atlanta Braves, Clemson Tigers, UNC Tarheels, & Carolina Panthers), and spending time in the great outdoors!
