Writing what matters.

Buncombe County Schools Writing Portfolio:

Writing What Matters!

Because we recognize writing as a critical college and career readiness skill, and in order to ensure greater consistency in the quality and quantity of student writing throughout our schools, all 6th through 10th grade students will begin collecting artifacts reflecting their best writing during the 2022-2023.

*While the process is now used from 6th grade to 10th grade, teachers and students in grades 11th-13th are more than welcome to begin this process. The portfolio is meant to consist of student writing throughout students' career in BCS.

Components

  • 1 narrative sample

  • 1 informational sample*

  • 1 argumentative sample*

  • 1 “other” sample

*Either informational or argumentative sample must involve research
