Welcome to my 8th grade ELA Classroom

I have been teaching at Reynold's Middle School for 15 years. So that tells you I love this school, the students, and the community.

My Background

I am originally from Michigan and West Virginia. I am a proud Marshall University alumni and have my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My career in education spans teaching kindergarten, fourth grade, 7th and 8th grade ELA. Living in Wilmington, North Carolina was a fun time of my life when I was able to combine my thrill seeking skydiving activities with teaching elementary grade levels. After moving to Asheville I started a photography business and took a break from teaching. When I adopted my daughter I decided to go back to teaching and was fortunate to land a job at Reynold's Middle School and have been here ever since.

My Classroom

I try to have a welcoming, organized, structured classroom. My philosophy about all students is that all students are a genius, but may not know where their super power is. I like to think I can guide students to find a confidence in themselves that they can build upon as they grow and mature. While not all students love to read, my goal is for them to leave 8th grade not hating it. Deadlines are important in my class, quality work is expected, and that will look different for each student. I like to combine theater and reading whenever possible.
