Learning Specialists are certified Special Education teachers who provide specialized instruction for students who have been identified as having a disability which impacts learning. The work of the Learning Specialist is to advocate for a student’s learning needs across all academic settings. Learning Specialists work directly with students, coordinate with service providers, collaborate with building level staff through RTI, and with grade level teachers in the general education setting.
Specific duties include:
Evaluate students who may warrant specialized instruction in academics
Create a student’s Individual Educational Plan (I.E.P.) in which they identify learning needs, develop appropriate goals and make recommendations for necessary classroom accommodations and modifications
Provide small group instruction tailored to the specific needs of the students and their goals.
Participate in the Response to Intervention (RTI) team, district wide special education meetings and in-service programs
