TIPS on talking to your child about their art:
A LITTLE ABOUT OUR ART PROGRAM
Here in BCSD our elementary school art experience for your children is the philosophy "Teaching for Artistic Behavior" aka TAB. The guiding principles of TAB are:
What do artists do?
The child is the artist.
The classroom is the child's studio TAB is a choice-based art program where students work in media centers to create authentic, student-driven work. Students determine what their artwork is about, what it looks like, and what materials or media to use.
The learning focus is on developing student creativity, creative process, composition, communication, craftsmanship and community. Opportunities for skill-development happen frequently in different ways that appeal to the different needs, interests, and learning styles of each individual student.
To sum it up, we provide a space for young artists to be themselves, explore and express their ideas/interests/emotions, challenge themselves, discover new things, connect with each other and be creatively empowered and celebrated as they grow every day!
What to expect each trimester?
This art newsletter will be blasted out each marking period/season (Fall, Winter, Spring) with new insights, featured artists, and updates from the art studio! Each grade will have a gallery where artists will post images of their creative explorations, some will include artist statements. Not every student will be featured every quarter so you will be surprised by new artists! By the end of the school year every student will have been featured at least once.
