Overview

English Language Advisory COMMITTEE

The English Language Learner Services Department is committed to improving services for the District’s English learners. The English Language Learner Services Department promotes academic excellence, equity, and access for the District’s 8,495 English learners. The District has adopted a variety of instructional programs to best meet the needs of these students. The programs are designed to close the achievement gap between English learners and native English speaking students.

Each California public school, grades kindergarten through 12, with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) with parent members elected by parents or guardians of EL’s in the same percentage membership as their children represent in the student body.
